PERSONALITY:

As is the case with many writers, Gentaro is a master of wordplay, often to an eccentric degree. Gentaro is an accomplished author capable of crafting beautiful tales, both in the form of books and in the raps he puts together for his teammates. It goes without saying that Gentaro has a very colorful imagination and no shortage of creativity. A man of words, he knows exactly how to word things for the desired effect. Gentaro can change his inflection and put on different voices, as if changing entire personas on the drop of a hat. His ability to shift characters ranges from feeble old men to damsels in distress. Whether or not he feels “at home” with any of those various masks and facades he puts on is an entirely different story.

Gentaro is not the most emotionally competent individual, partly due to circumstance and partly due to choice. Gentaro does not interact with many people on a basis that would be considered friendly. While he is fine with handling discrete social interactions, Gentaro does not consider many people a “friend.” In fact, one of his only friends is the source of his inspiration and many of his life decisions.

Gentaro seems to make many of his decisions based on his childhood friend who is now hospitalized. The two appear close and it is unclear how deep that is bond but is suggested and explicitly stated at points that Gentaro’s works are all for his friend. A devoted friend, Gentaro still visits and enjoys reading his pieces of fiction with the other. It is also suggested that such friend is the only one Gentaro has. This seems to have left a scar on Gentaro, preventing him from reaching out and truly connecting with others in fear that he will once again be hurt and abandoned.

Gentaro is adopted and in a system and society where adoption was once viewed in a negative light — and still may be in the new world and order — it seems to have impacted him to some degree. He is guarded, clothing himself in traditional clothes that hide much of his skin and prevent any other sense of identity. Gentaro reacts poorly to Hifumi critiquing his clothing choice, suggesting that he has issues with his image and sense of self. It’s suggested that Gentaro grew up extremely poor and that the couple that adopted him, while loving him just the same, did not have a wealth of cash or opportunity. In fact, Gentaro is used to working hard for everything he has, even his education, as his high school came as a privilege and not a right.

Gentaro builds walls around himself and speaks in riddles. Often, he tells lies that are harmless in nature but prevent him from having to address any serious situation with a genuine and vulnerable answer. Of course, Gentaro admits to such lies, taking absolute delight when he can rile someone up with them. His lies are characterized as “nice lies”, rather to the benefit of those he’s deceiving than to any real detriment. Gentaro is not an openly malicious person and many of his missteps may be his inability to truly understand and connect with other people — this wars with his penchant for understanding people on paper. He can understand motives and what actions people should make, given his role as a writer, but he often falls short in reality. Gentaro does not appear to be the most empathetic of individuals, at least outwardly.

His relationship with fling posse is a point of interest. Gentaro is constantly evolving as a character and it seems as if he genuinely is starting to consider his teammates friends. Confidants. Of course, Gentaro would not openly admit to such a thing, and would much rather poke fun at and pry into the personal lives of his teammates. With Ramuda, Genataro is intrigued by the mystery of the other man. With Dice, he takes great pleasure in how easily his teammate easily falls for his lies, time after time. Gentaro even goes as far to jest that they were lovers in a pastlife. Still? Gentaro wrote the song Stella for his group, and while a story he’s crafted, and the nature of the ability of the microphone to prevent one from lying, there is some truth to the words of it. Gentaro may have found a place to exist, a place to belong, with his posse.

Still, no mystery is too small for him — he is curious by nature and calculated in most of his approaches.

POWERS/ABILITIES: As a holder of a hypnosis microphone, Gentaro is able to use the power of words to battle. Gentaro comes from a world where physical violence is now banished and words are the new tools of power. To that effect, I’m happy to limit his ability to inflict too much damage on others by his raps.

INVENTORY: His leatherbound notebook and microphone.
